Chinar Corps operational preparedness was reviewed by General Dhiraj Seth, Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), during a visit to forward areas and formations of the corps under Northern Command on Friday, along with the security situation along the Line of Control and in the hinterland.

Commanders briefed the COAS on the prevailing security environment, operational readiness and capability development initiatives across the formation. He was updated on measures instituted to maintain a robust security posture along the Line of Control, and on preparedness for counter terrorist operations in the hinterland.

The briefings covered the full spread of the corps' responsibilities, from forward deployments facing the Line of Control to the rear areas where counter terrorist operations are mounted, an arrangement General Seth oversees as head of the Indian Army.

COAS reiterates the VIJAY framework, commends troop vigilance

While interacting with troops in the operational areas, Gen Seth commended all ranks for maintaining a high state of vigilance across the operational spectrum. He reiterated the thrust areas of VIJAY, the five point guiding framework towards transforming the Indian Army into a future ready force, capable of responding at short notice across the full spectrum of operations.

Coordination among security agencies

Gen Seth also appreciated the close coordination between the Indian Army, the civil administration, Central Armed Police Forces, the Jammu and Kashmir Police and other security agencies in maintaining peace and stability, an arrangement that falls within the broader security mandate overseen by the Ministry of Defence.

Friday's visit follows earlier reviews of Northern Command formations

Friday's assessment of Chinar Corps operational preparedness follows a visit Gen Seth made to Headquarters Chinar Corps and White Knight Corps in July, his maiden trip to Northern Command after taking over as COAS. He has since carried out similar reviews of security preparedness in Jammu and Kashmir and, earlier this month, of border development initiatives at Spear Corps.

Op Drishti 2026 surgical eye camp under way at Tangdhar

At Tangdhar, the COAS visited the Advanced Surgical Eye Camp being conducted by the Indian Army under Op Drishti 2026. The initiative, one in a series the Army's medical services have run in border and hinterland areas in recent years and which is also recorded with the Press Information Bureau, provides specialised ophthalmic care to serving personnel, Veer Naris, veterans, dependents and civilians, particularly those in remote and difficult to reach areas of Jammu and Kashmir.

Specialist teams from Army Hospital, Research and Referral, New Delhi, and 92 Base Hospital, Srinagar, are conducting the camp from 23 to 30 September 2026. More than 6,000 patients are being screened, and over 400 ophthalmic surgeries are planned.
