IAF Band Independence Day commemorations will include a performance by the Indian Air Force Band at the Public Plaza, Param Yodha Sthal, National War Memorial in New Delhi, scheduled for Sunday between 1700 hrs and 1800 hrs.

The Ministry of Defence announced the programme on Saturday, two days ahead of Independence Day itself.

The Ministry has framed the evening as an exercise in public engagement, meant to foster national pride through a repertoire of patriotic and soulful numbers, and it has tied the hour long set explicitly to 150 years of the national song, Vande Mataram. No ticketing or entry details were mentioned in the announcement.

The musicians taking the stage

A 40 strong contingent will perform: 32 Airmen and eight Agniveervayu, including three women, drawn from the Indian Air Force's band cadre. The Agniveervayu presence marks one of the more visible outings for personnel recruited under the Agnipath scheme, now three years into service with the force.

Leadership behind the performance

Master Warrant Officer A Srihari will serve as principal conductor. He will be assisted by Junior Warrant Officer Moon Deka, Junior Warrant Officer Abhishek Paul and Sergeant NT Singh.


150 years of Vande Mataram

Vande Mataram, composed by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay in the 1870s and later carried into his novel Anandamath, was adopted as India's National Song after Independence. This year's IAF programme is billed around the song's 150th anniversary rather than around Independence Day alone.

War memorials host a wider calendar

The venue has carried more than wreath laying through 2026. In June it was where the government first officially disclosed the identities of six Operation Sindoor casualties on the National War Memorial's Roll of Honour. Around the same time, the Fire and Fury Corps marked Galwan Day with its own wreath laying ceremony at the Galwan War Memorial in Ladakh. The Air Force has used similar set piece calendar dates through the year to reach beyond flying squadrons, running Common Yoga Protocol sessions at stations from Leh to Car Nicobar on International Yoga Day.
