Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) is India's largest indigenous supplier of defence electronics, producing systems for every branch of the armed forces from its network of manufacturing units across the country. Military communications and networking

BEL supplies secure tactical and strategic communication equipment to the Army, Navy and Air Force, including software-defined radios, satellite communication terminals, tropospheric-scatter systems and battlefield-management networks. Electronic warfare and C4I

Electronic warfare (EW) is one of BEL's longest-standing specialisations, covering radar-warning receivers, jammers and signal-intelligence systems fitted on aircraft, ships, and land platforms to detect and counter hostile emissions. Complementing this, BEL builds Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Intelligence (C4I) systems that fuse sensor data from radars, satellites and ground stations into a common operational picture, enabling faster and better-informed decision-making by military commanders. Naval sonars and electro-optics

For the Indian Navy, BEL manufactures hull-mounted and towed-array sonar suites, underwater sensor systems and anti-submarine warfare equipment used to detect and track submarines and torpedoes. Its electro-optics division produces fire-control systems, thermal imagers and laser range-finders that give gun and missile crews accurate target acquisition and tracking in day and night conditions, deployed on tanks, ships and infantry combat vehicles alike.

Weapon-system integration

Beyond individual sensors and radios, BEL plays the role of systems integrator on major weapon programmes, most notably the indigenous Akash medium-range surface-to-air missile system, for which it supplies the surveillance and fire-control radars, launcher electronics and tactical command posts alongside partners such as Bharat Dynamics Limited. This integration expertise allows BEL to deliver complete, mission-ready air-defence batteries rather than standalone components, a capability increasingly sought by both the Indian armed forces and export customers under India's growing defence-export programme.

Tank, gun and border electronics

BEL also supplies electronics that upgrade the firepower and survivability of armoured and infantry platforms, including gun-control systems, laser-warning receivers, driver night-sights and battlefield surveillance systems used along India's land borders. These products are typically retrofitted onto existing tanks, artillery guns and infantry combat vehicles, extending their operational life and bringing them up to contemporary digital-fire-control standards without the cost of full platform replacement, an approach that has made BEL a long-term technology partner to the Indian Army's modernisation programmes.
