Operation Jal Rahat puts Army flood relief columns across three upper Assam districts

Responding to a requisition from the Assam State Administration, the Indian Army has launched Operation Jal Rahat III, deploying three flood relief columns backed by Engineer Task Forces into Sivasagar, Jorhat and Charaideo. Working out of Gargaon College, Mariani and Sonari in coordination with the civil administration, the troops have so far rescued 150 civilians in Charaideo, comprising 73 men, 47 women and 30 children, and moved them clear of the flood line, with reserve columns held back for immediate deployment.
