The head of the Ivory Coast Air Force spent 27 July 2026 in New Delhi across two engagements that put India Ivory Coast defence cooperation squarely in view. Air Maj Gen Koffi N'Guessan Alfred, Chief of Staff of the Cote d'Ivoire Air Force, met Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh and then called on Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, the Chief of the Air Staff, during an official visit to India.
India Ivory Coast defence cooperation reviewed with the Defence Secretary
Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh received Air Maj Gen Koffi N'Guessan Alfred in the capital, where the two sides went over ongoing and potential avenues for defence cooperation. The talks centred on strengthening collaboration to build up the capabilities of the Ivory Coast Air Force.
Both reaffirmed their intent to deepen bilateral defence ties. The Ministry of Defence framed the meeting as an exchange on where the two air forces can work together more closely.

What the official statements did not spell out
Neither statement named a piece of equipment, a memorandum of understanding, a training package or a figure. That absence is routine for a visit at this stage, when a service chief and his hosts first map where cooperation could go. For now, India Ivory Coast defence cooperation rests on the intent both sides restated, with any specifics to follow later through the diplomatic and defence channels that carry the relationship.
India's defence engagement with Africa
India has widened its defence contacts across Africa in recent years, mixing training offers, industrial tie-ups and higher-level service exchanges. The most concrete recent case IDW has covered is the India Zimbabwe Joint Defence Committee, which gave that relationship a standing channel.
The same pattern runs with partners further afield, from the India Indonesia defence pact to the Myanmar India defence cooperation track. West Africa is newer ground for it.
Guard of Honour at Air Headquarters
At Air Headquarters in New Delhi, Air Maj Gen Koffi N'Guessan Alfred was received with a ceremonial Guard of Honour before calling on ACM AP Singh. The Indian Air Force said the call took in discussions on issues of mutual interest and on ways to further strengthen bilateral defence cooperation and military to military engagement.
An official visit to New Delhi
The call on the Air Chief formed part of the Ivorian officer's official visit to India. Between the Defence Secretary meeting and the honours at Air Headquarters, Air Maj Gen Koffi N'Guessan Alfred was given a full-day reception in the capital on 27 July.
