INS Sudarshini departs Boston on 25 July 2026, the Indian Navy sail training ship standing out of the Massachusetts port at the close of its run through the American SAIL 250 celebrations. The Ministry of Defence reported the departure on 26 July.
She sails on as part of Lokayan 26, the transoceanic deployment that has carried the three-masted barque from Kochi across the Atlantic and up the United States east coast this summer.
INS Sudarshini departs Boston after four US ports
Boston was the last of four American calls. Across the leg the ship took part in SAIL 250 events at Norfolk, Baltimore, New York and Boston, and represented India at the International Naval Review 250, the Tricolour flying at each port.
Sail training is her working purpose. Cadets of the Indian Navy learn to handle canvas and line at sea aboard her, and on this passage they have done it an ocean from home.

Dignitaries and diaspora received on board
At the American ports the ship received dignitaries, members of the Indian diaspora and international naval delegations on board, and the Navy framed the calls as professional and cultural exchanges meant to build closer maritime ties between India and the host nations.
Open decks have been the pattern of the leg.
The Boston call in the wider Lokayan 26 run
Boston opened on 12 July, when Sudarshini sailed in for Sail Boston, the first tall ships gathering the city had hosted in nine years, and came alongside at Fish Pier among vessels from more than twenty nations. India Defence Wire covered her Grand Parade of Sails entry and the cadet march through the Seaport as it happened.
New York came before that. On 4 July the ship stood past the Statue of Liberty in the Parade of Sail on the Hudson, after a Brooklyn berth that drew more than a thousand visitors. Her first Maryland call at Baltimore on 26 June, and Norfolk before it, opened the run.
Where Lokayan 26 began
The voyage sailed from Kochi on 20 January on a deployment planned to run about ten months. It took the ship through the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea, up through the Suez, across the Mediterranean and then over the Atlantic by way of the Canaries and the Caribbean before the American coast. More than two hundred cadets have rotated through her decks for sail training along the way.
Course set for the Azores
INS Sudarshini departs Boston with the American leg of Lokayan 26 behind her. She has set course for Ponta Delgada in the Azores, the mid-Atlantic island group that belongs to Portugal. The passage points her back east across the ocean she crossed to reach the United States coast.
