Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) is India’s principal state-owned manufacturer of guided missiles and allied defence equipment. Established in 1970 and headquartered in Hyderabad, it industrialises the missile designs developed by DRDO and delivers them to the armed forces.
Product portfolio
- Surface-to-air missiles: the indigenous Akash air-defence system.
- Anti-tank guided missiles: the Konkurs and Milan families, and next-generation indigenous ATGMs.
- Air-to-air and other weapons: the Astra beyond-visual-range missile, plus torpedoes and countermeasures.
- Cruise missiles: a manufacturing partner for the BrahMos programme.
Facilities
BDL operates production units at Hyderabad, Bhanur and Vishakhapatnam, and is expanding capacity to meet rising domestic and export demand.
Role in self-reliance
As the industrial arm that turns DRDO’s missile research into fielded weapons, BDL is central to India’s indigenous strike and air-defence capability.
