Surface-to-air and air-to-air missiles

The Akash weapon system is BDL's flagship surface-to-air missile, a medium-range, quick-reaction system that can engage aircraft and other aerial targets at ranges of roughly 25-30 kilometres and altitudes up to about 18,000 metres. BDL's Visakhapatnam unit manufactures heavyweight and lightweight torpedoes developed by DRDO's Naval Science and Technological Laboratory, including the Varunastra heavyweight torpedo used aboard Indian Navy surface combatants for anti-submarine operations, together with lighter torpedoes designed for smaller vessels and helicopters. Countermeasures and other systems
